Before waxing our car, it is important for us to remove any kind of visible oxidation. Oxidation occurs due to previous use of wax. It could depend on the amount of wax that we used previously. When the sunlight hits the wax layer, oxidation could accelerate. Clear coat compound should allow us to remove oxidation quickly. We should be able to properly step up the process, by using the standard finishes. In this case, we should make sure that the clear coats are mild and not too harsh for our car. In some cases, we will need to seal the paint. This is especially true if we use special compound to remove the oxidation. In order to achieve this, we may need to use sealer or glaze. Most glazers and sealers can be applied by wiping the surface. After the surface seems to haze over, we should be able to use soft towel to properly remove any chemical on the paint surface. After we do this, the surface of the car should be perfectly clean. This should be a good time for us to wax the car. It is important for us to the proper type of wax.
It is preferable to use waxing compound that contains enough carnauba wax. Again, we should start by waxing the top of our car and it is a good idea focus on small sections first. Then, we should slowly work our way down. Before removing the wax layer, we should let it sit for about 10 minutes. In general, we should get better results by having a couple of thin coats, instead of a thicker one. We should try to apply side-to-side motion when waxing. Swirl patterns can appear when we use the circular motions. Door jambs should also be waxed, as well as areas behind bumpers and beneath door hinges. We should be able to neutralize minor blemishes with cotton cloth. We could wrap the cloth around our index finger to get better results on small areas of the car. If possible, we should machine-buff; so the wax or polish can become a high luster. Better results can often be achieved when we use the orbital model, instead of the rotary one. The latter could provide faster results; but we could damage the paint easily if we are not experienced enough.
The plastic chrome should be treated like normal painted surface. In this case, we should be able to apply a light coat of wax. However, we shouldn’t wax the rubberized, black parts. If we accidentally wax the rubber surface, we could spray it with clean water and wipe it. But, if the wax can’t be removed from rubber surface, we may need to use an alternative solution. Put some peanut butter in the microwave and we could turn the microwave on until we see some oil separate from the butter. The oil of peanut butter should be able to dissolve many products of wax. Some presence of peanut in the oil can work as abrasive material to lift the wax stain. Wax could also accumulate in crevices and around emblems. Use toothbrushes or cotton swabs to clean them.
