Marylebone is one of our favourite areas of London. Located just behind the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street, Marylebone is where you visit for an area rich in history, independent shops and traditional English Pubs. Overall, things don’t get much more quintessentially British than Marylebone. It’s slightly less posh than Mayfair but arguably much more interesting, whilst still having some of the most stylish bars and restaurants the city hass to offer. The perfect combination of contemporary and historical London, hop on the tram or drop your car off at Care Park, and let’s explore this beautiful area and all it has to offer.
The Wallace Collection
The Wallace Collection is a must when visiting Marylebone. This is a large stately home that doubles as a national museum, featuring beautiful art and furniture that it known to be one of the most outstanding collections internationally. The opulence of the building is phenomenal and you can spend hours in here exploring all of the small details that there is to see, as well as the larger more striking ones. There is something here for everyone, so make sure to drop in. Entry is also free of charge seven days a week!
Regents Park
For a bit of fresh air and greenery, you need to visit Regents Park, just North of Marylebone. This is an absolutely magnificent Royal park, with beautiful rose gardens and even London Zoo! This is the perfect little escape from busy London life. Have a walk around or hire Santander Cycles if you want to see more of the park in a shorter time.
Sherlock Holmes Museum
If you’re one for a bit of fiction, then you should stop by The Sherlock Holmes Museum. This is a private museum that is dedicated to the fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and it takes around 30 to 45 minutes to explore, although once you’ve bought a ticket, you can spend as long as you like there within the opening hours. Visited by more than 2 million fans, this is definitely worth a visit! Adult tickets cost £16 and concessions are £14, children under 16 are £11 and children under 6 go free!
The Grazing Goat
In between all of your exploring you’re likely to want a drink, and do we have the perfect venue for you! The Grazing Goat iss the perfect combination of fancy and traditional, the venue is stunning and there is plenty of choice in terms f drink, from classic beers to cocktails, wine and spirits. The food is also exceptional if you fancy some lunch here. Whilst this isn’t a completely traditional pub, it has hints of it whilst also allowing you to enjoy a more upmarket side of things.
Daunt Books
Last but certainly not least we have Daunt Books. This is one of the most famous bookshops in London and is part of a chain created by the independent bookmakers. It has all been custom built which has resulted in a beautiful Edwardian bookshop featuring long oak galleries and beautiful skylights. Even if you aren’t a book lover, you need to visit Daunt Books to see all of the beauty it has to offer.
